The History of an Ancient Town
The town was founded during the Roman Empire and it was initially called Varagine.
At first, it was and indipendent town, but it became first part of the Republic of Genoa and then part of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
Even today it is possible to see what remains of the ancient city walls (12th century), of some towers and the Romantic front side of the first Church of Saint Ambrogio.
Varazze, renown for its shipyards, holds a modern and fully equipped touristic pier with cafe, restaurants and many shops. The blue sea with its 3km of sandy shores and its typical Ligurian ”Caruggi“, along with the art, the history and the beauty of nature allow Varazze to shine as a pearl in the Ligurian Sea.
